What Causes the Hair To Thin or Stunt Growth?
Hair loss is one of the most devastating experiences one can
experience in their life. For many women and men, hair loss is a hard thing to
cope with and often times feel like an even more difficult process to correct.
The first step to finding regimens that will help in attempts
to re-grow hair begins with knowledge and understanding of why hair loss often
occurs.
The hair can grow at the rate of about one-half inch per
month -- with each hair having a growth phase of up to six years. At that point
the hair "rests" for a period of time and falls out. Resilient, the
hair follicles in which the lost hair arises will then begin to eventually grow
new strands throughout the cycle of life.
The natural hair growth process can be interrupted by a number
of factors. One of the most common causes for hair loss is connected to an increased
level in hormones for men and women. It can influence the productive function
of follicles, causing the hair to thin and eventually fall out or stunt in growth.
Another unfortunate hair loss cause is genetically enhanced
and known as androgens. Androgens are a group of hormones that include testosterone,
androsteinedione, and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – found in large quantities
in men and small quantities in women. Excessive build up of DHT in the hair follicle
causes shrinkage therefore altering the natural state of the hair growth process,
leaving an end result for some of what is known as androgenic alopecia.
Re-growth of hair can be achieved once it is understood
what has caused the initial hair loss, however, patience is a virtue. Better Braids®
Herbal Hair Care Products aid in the re-growth period as they protect new growth
that matures by locking in moisture to prevent breakage. It is particularly essential
for braid and natural styles during the beginning stages of hair growth, best
known as the “new growth” period. This is the time in the re-growth
cycle when the hair is fine and much thinner requiring greater care to the hair
and scalp. Eventually this hair will strengthen and become courser as it reaches
adult texture.
